RE: Need advice on trailer size/length

If you go that size, you will be limiting where you can camp. With the mega cab and 38 feet of trailer, you will be around 60 feet long. Most state campgrounds have size limits as well so be sure to check and make sure this size trailer is allowed. If you don't go to state campgrounds, you should have an easier time as any RV park that can accommodate a large class A should be able to have a spot for you. Check for parks with pull-throughs too since that size trailer might be a bit challenging trying to back in to and get out of a tight spot.Thank you. I think this solidifies a decission to pass on this trailer. Thanks everyone

RE: Need advice on trailer size/length

I do have a good tow vehicle, 06 CTD mega cab. I do need a lengthy TT being I have a family of 5 which 2 are teenagers who bring friends. My intentions of a new trailer were not gonna be over 30ft. But I found this Mallard for a good price, but the length does concern me. I do have tow exsperiance, just not in camp grounds with that size of trailer

Need advice on trailer size/length

I am in the market to purchase a TT. I have a line on a 2001 Fleetwood Mallard model # 33Z. I looked it up on NADA.com and its a long sucker. 38 foot long x 8 foot wide with a super slide. It is super clean, but my concern is the length. How difficult would/is it to maneuver or even tow? I would hate to spend the money on something like this and not be happy with the size Thanks in advance Don

RE: Help save one of our most treasured camp grounds

I have been very involved with the Blue Ribbon Coalition,(BRC) Friends of the Rubicon (FOTR). My 4wd club did a picket line patition in Placerville when the Eldoraldo National Forest was and still is under siege to try and shut down to public access (land that we have every right to use respectfully from OUR tax money) and managed to save over a thousand acres from being shut out to you and I. A loud educated voice is always listened to, and the more that voice is heard the better chance we all have to continue to have access to recreate on land that is rightfully ours to use (in a respectfull manner) The Lawson family has used that land in a respectfull manner for years and years. Yes the old dilapidated trailers should be removed, and the septic system could probly use some work. But other than that, EDUCATE the people using the land and if you see anyone disrespecting any part of it, EDUCATE THEM!! I am so tired of people being scared to teach someone, or ask someone to clean there trash up, or "please do not go into that area". People have become a Stand back and watch this idiot instead of teaching them what they are doing is wrong. By that time, the Ranger or Sierra Club (aka over educated morons) have even more pull and ammo on there side. If you enjoy your right to recreate on private or public land and do not want to see you or yourself get shut out of your favorite area's, join the BRC. They are there fighting for you and your rights.

RE: When do you tie down your awning?

This is a very good topic of discusion. Being a newbie to the camper world, I had no idea of the tie down's that you all are using. I believe this will be my next purchase. I do have the de-flappers, only one per side though.

Help save one of our most treasured camp grounds

Lawsons Landing ( aka Dilons Beach ) is one of the most beutifull and fun camp grounds in California. With nearly a mile of beach to walk, fish and play in the sand, dig for goo'ie neck clam's, catch tasty crab with your nets or if your feeling adventurous diving for abalone Lawsons Landing is most definatly worth saving for generations to come. I myself have found it to be my favorite area to take my family and have visited Lawsons for over 10 years now. It has become tradition for my friends and family to camp there in the summer months. It is a privatly owned 960 acre area that also happens to be cattle ranch land. The family has owned the propety since 1929 and now the Sierra Club and the California Coastal Commission are trying to minimize it drasticly or do away with it all together. I myself support the "tread lightly" program and do not leave a foot print behind so other's can enjoy what I so dearly do myself. Please take a second and add your name to the petition. If you dont live in California or dont have plans to recreate at Lawson's Landing remember, your favorite camp site could be next! Save Lawsons Landing Thanks everyone, and please post your opinions. Would love to hear what you all think. Positve or other Don, family and friends

RE: Lawsons Landing (Dillons Beach) Ca

Yep, its a fantastic place for sure. It is ashame that the enviro-wacko's are trying to ruin YET another place by trying to close it down instead of taking the "tread lightly" type of occupency. I am an avid off-roader and the Sierra's are constantly under attack from these type's. With there valiant efforts to close area's down why cant they spend there tallents on informing and enforcing there proper use of wetlands and preservation.

Lawsons Landing (Dillons Beach) Ca

This is one of our favorite camp area's. It is a cattle pasture as well. If you wake up early, usually from the cows rubbin there back side's on the camp trailer LOL Great place, typical ocean weather. 50% chance of no wind and on this trip we lucked out. On the other side of the dunes is the beach. And head down to the pier we throw crab nets or if your really feeling courageous and it's low tide you can dig up clam's out of the sand bar http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v211/konacaliboy/Tahoepice007.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v211/konacaliboy/Tahoepice018.jpg And having fun playing Rock Band on the Xbox 360 http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v211/konacaliboy/Tahoepice023.jpg

Many questions

I have recently purchased our very first Trailer and learning quickly on what I want to change or modify. It is a year 2000 Frontier 27ft toyhauler. The wheels are ugly IMO, white waggon wheel style. I have seen some really nice lookin aluminum wheels. Six lug bolt pattern, any idea of what vehicle 6 lug pattern would fit my trailer? I understand that it has to be a 0 offset. Also, it came with a very ugly built in radio that is huge. AM/FM cassette. I would like to replace it with a vehicle style radio CD iPod capatible. If pic's would help describe, I will post em. What have you done or seen that I could replace this montrosity with and how to deal with the huge hole left behind from removing the factory unit? Thanks in advance, Don

TV mounts

I have seen that some are mounting LCD TV's on bar mounts that screw or bolt to the walls of the trailer. What are you doing or is there any concern about the weight of the TV and mount ripping the screws/bolts out of the walls? What are you doing for reinforcment and preventing this from happening? Thanks Don

A couple questions TV swivel mounts and replacing ugly radio

I recently purchased a 2000 travel trailer. It has no perminant TV location, but does have antenna connection outlet. I have noticed alot of people installing flat screen TV's with the swivel, or a bar mount to the side wall. Is there anything to worry about as far as the weight of the TV, (it would be a 19" lcd) and the thin walls where it would be screwed to? What are you doing to support the weight of the TV and mount? Next, the trailer came with an ugly AM/FM cassette radio. It is not a vehicle style, about 20" accross and 8" tall. I would like to replace it with a car stereo type so I can play CD's and connect my iPod. (if photo's are needed to better exsplain let me know) Thanks, Don

Hello from Galt California

Just wanted to say hey to everyone, been lurking here for a few days. We just purchased our first camp trailer. Got a heck of a deal on it. 2000 27 ft Frontier toy hauler bumper pull. It certainly was a diamond in the rough, filthy from sitting near the Stockton River for a 1 1/2 years. Moss growing on the roof, riverside of trailer was nearly all brown. Spider webs etc etc. Spent about 5 hours cleaning up the exterior and I have to say that it came out pretty darn nice. My only issue so far is the moss left black staining on the rubberized roof that I can't seem to get off. Any tips or tricks to help aliviate would be appreciative. Anyways, here are some pics. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v211/konacaliboy/Tahoepice117.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v211/konacaliboy/Tahoepice114.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v211/konacaliboy/Tahoepice115.jpg
